Xenith was founded in 2006 by a Harvard quarterback and Columbia University MD who believed there was a better way to build football helmets. Xenith's cutting-edge helmets began with the idea for an “adaptive internal shock matrix" which would house interchangeable comfort pads that conform around player’s heads by pulling the chin straps, and an “impact responsive shock” to deliver a superior custom fit and advanced protection against both low level subconcussive impacts, as well as hard, fast collisions that football players experience on the field.

In this article, we'll take a look at the evolution of Xenith football helmets to explore how innovative design and advanced technology has revolutionized player safety and performance on the field. Whether you're a player, coach, or fan, understanding how Xenith got started and the strides taken to advance its helmet technology highlights, not only the importance of safety, but Xenith's commitment to protecting athletes at every stage of the game.

Xenith X1

The Xenith story begins with the introduction of the Xenith X1 helmet in 2009. At its core, the Xenith X1 was designed to address the common issues with traditional helmets - primarily focusing on enhancing impact protection and player comfort. What set the X1 apart from all other helmets was its innovative Shock Matrix and an industry first Adaptive Fit System™, which offered a superior custom fit and an advanced approach to helmet performance. This technology was also a significant leap forward in helmet design, marking Xenith’s commitment to create a better way to build football helmets.

Xenith X2

Following the success of the X1, Xenith's helmets continued to evolve with the introduction of the Xenith X2 helmet in 2011. The X2 took lessons learned from the X1, and introduced further advancements in safety and comfort. The X2 also featured an upgraded version of the internal Shock Matrix and improved the Adaptive Fit System. It was well-received by players and coaches for its blend of protection and comfort, continuing to build Xenith’s reputation as a leader in helmet innovation.

Epic+ & X2E+

In 2014, Xenith introduced the Epic and X2E helmets, followed by “+” versions of each helmet in 2017.

The X2E+, which represented the pinnacle of Xenith’s helmet evolution at that time, combined the best elements of the X2E with new advancements in fit, comfort, and impact protection. The X2E+ was praised for its ability to deliver an unrivaled level of safety, while also maintaining a lightweight and comfortable fit.

Xenith Shadow

In 2019, the Xenith Shadow made its debut. The Xenith Shadow helmet is notable for its advanced nylon polymer shell that enhances both comfort and impact absorption for low level subconcussive impacts, as well as hard, fast collisions. The Shadow incorporates state-of-the-art technology to manage rotational forces and improve overall player safety, continuing Xenith’s tradition of continuous innovation and advancement.

The Shadow XR, released in 2020, represents the culmination of Xenith’s research and development efforts. It integrates all the advanced features of the Shadow, but with additional improvements in fit, weight distribution, and impact management. The Shadow XR is designed for those who seek the ultimate in helmet technology, offering high level protection and comfort.

Orbit Pro

Launched in 2024, the Xenith Orbit Pro will change your perception of what football helmets are capable of. With industry leading comfort, fit, and its award winning protection (top safety ratings from NFL Players Association testing), this multi-layered helmet is reinforced with a flexible, yet durable nylon shell that integrates with a lightweight lattice system designed to enhance fit, comfort, and protection.

The helmet's interior One Fit foam (often compared to the softness of memory foam) provides a lightweight and fully customizable  fit, without the delays, hassles, or extra costs of other helmets requiring 3D scanning - all features you'd expect from a top tier football helmet.

The Future

As Xenith continues to innovate, exciting developments are on the horizon, and promise to take our commitment to safety and performance to new heights. These next-generation advancements are expected to introduce cutting-edge features and advanced technologies, further solidifying Xenith’s position as a leader in football helmet innovation.

Stay tuned; Xenith's journey is far from over, and the best is yet to come.
