Xenith and the Detroit Sports Commission are proud to announce Aaron Richard Jr. as the winner of the inaugural Xenith Prep Kickoff Classic Scholarship.
The $1,000 scholarship is an action resulting from the Xenith Prep Kickoff Classic Community Summit: Racial Inequality & Sport, which was held on Sept. 30, 2020.
This event featured local community leaders and football coaches speaking on the critical need for tangible change and courageous conversations on racial injustice in our communities.
Scholarship applicants were asked to submit a video essay describing how sport has helped them overcome barriers related to race and how sport can be used to address issues of racial inequality in their community.
The applicants' video essays were then scored by a panel of judges and Aaron received the highest overall score among all submissions.
Aaron will graduate from University of Detroit Jesuit High School this spring and plans to attend Tennessee State University next fall.
