Detroit, Michigan

Jalen Thompson is a consensus No. 1 defensive end prospect in the state of Michigan for the Class of 2023, and a three-year varsity letterman at Detroit Cass Tech High School. He currently plays Defensive Lineman at Michigan State University.

Born and raised in Detroit, Jalen embodies a gritty, hard working mentality on the field. “Growing up playing in Detroit, I’ve learned how to overcome adversity and what it means to work as a team.” Thompson is a versatile player who can play in either even or odd front defensive schemes, and is comfortable lining up in multiple alignments. He was coached well in using his hands and length versus the run game and in pass rush. He also shows great ability to disengage blockers to get off the block and make plays.

In 2020, Jalen helped Cass Tech to a 9-1 record and a Michigan Division I fourth-round playoff appearance as a sophomore totaling 15 tackles, 8 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles throughout the season. During his junior season in 2021, Jalen had 30 tackles (12 for loss) and 10 sacks, while also earning MLive Metro Detroit Football Dream Team honorable mention. He finished his senior season recording 53 tackles (15 for loss) and 12 sacks. Jalen is currently entering his sophomore season at MSU, and was recently named the #1 Freshman Edge in the Big Ten, and the #2 Freshman Edge in the entire NCAA.
